Southern California is perhaps the most diverse avian region in the country. Rich estuaries offer abundant waterfowl, shorebirds, waders, gulls, and terns, while the coast scrub is home to many of the California endemics such as Wrentit, California Gnatcatcher and more. Further inland, the mountains offer a host of pine and oak species including Pygmy Nuthatches, Oak Titmice, and Mountain Quail just to name a few. And finally as you continue east and drop into the Colorado desert, rugged birds like Le Conte’s Thrasher can be found. You can even make it out to the Salton Sea for Yellow-footed Gull if you want! At any time of year there are great birds to be found, and BRANT guide and owner, Michael Owen Hilchey can help you find them.

New Mexico

New Mexico hosts an incredible array of wildlife along with a stunning and equally varied landscape as backdrop. The birding and photography opportunities here are fantastic year round. Rosy-finches, mountain west birds, grassland species, and visits to Bosque del Apache NWR are often featured targets of our local trips here. We have several guides (Jason & Raymond) currently living in New Mexico and generally have availability throughout the year.

New York

The New York City Metropolitan Area boasts a wide array of great birding spots at all times of the year. Whether it’s the large city parks in migration, the coastal saltmarshes and estuaries in the summer, or the coasts and beaches in the dead of winter, there are always great spots to view birds. From as close as Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge, to as far away as Montauk Point, take advantage of Doug’s local birding knowledge and experience to get the most out of your visit to the New York City area.

The legendary migration mecca of Northern Ohio is perhaps one of the best places on the continent to witness the magic of spring passerine migration! But in addition to the massive numbers of warblers, vireos, and flycatchers that stop here each year on their way to the breeding grounds, the southern shore of Lake Erie offers world class birding all year around. Winter lake watching and gulling along with breeding sparrows, warblers, and waterfowl are all reason enough to visit Ohio in the “off” seasons. BRANT guide and Ohio native, Ashli is here to help you find all the birds and wildlife this region has to offer.
